Matresses

Mattresses, Mattress Pads, Divans & Bed Bases - Contract

Overview

This British Standard specifies requirements for the resistance to ignition of mattresses, mattress pads, divans and bed bases when tested in accordance with BS EN 597-1, BS EN 597-2 and BS 6807 including those used in areas vulnerable to arson.  It does not apply to mattress protectors.

Although at present there is no legislation directly controlling the ignitability of contract and office furniture, there are statutory and other requirements in use.

In addition to testing composite samples, BS 7177 also specifies methods of test for filling materials used in mattresses and mattress pads.
