IMO Testing

International Maritime Organization, Fire Tests (IMO 2010 FTP Code)


Overview 

BTTG™ is recognised by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Administration as an approved test laboratory to test in accordance with International Code for the Application of Fire Test Procedures (IMO 2010 FTP Code).  Furthermore, the tests can also be used to Wheelmark products in accordance the Marine Equipment Directive (MarED) council directive 96/98/EC.  BTTG™ is also an approved notified body for this service.

The IMO 2010 FTP Code is intended for use by the Administration and the competent authority of the flag State when approving products for installation in ships of their country in accordance with the fire safety requirements of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), 1974, as amended.

Amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) to make mandatory the 2010 FTP Code came into force on 1 July 2012, thereby enhancing the fire safety provisions on board ships.

The 2010 FTP Code provides the international requirements for laboratory testing, type-approval and fire test procedures for products referenced under SOLAS chapter II-2.

 

Approved Tests:

  • IMO FTP Code 2010:Part 5 -  Surface Flammability Of Bulkhead, Ceiling, Deck Finish Materials and Primary Deck Coverings.
  • IMO FTP Code 2010:Part 7 - Test for Vertically Supported Textiles and Films
  • IMO FTP Code 2010:Part 8 - Test for Upholstered Furniture
  • IMO FTP Code 2010:Part 9 - Test for Bedding Components

Although BTTG™ is not approved to test to Part 2 - Smoke and Toxicity Test, we can arrange for this test to be carried out by another approved laboratory.
